FAMILY MONOTERPENE
Monoterpenes are substances built with 2 isoprene units. They are usually volatile and (poly-)cyclic compounds, main constituents of essential oils. These materials are broadly reported as GC terpene standards in monographs related to these oils. Iridoids are monoterpene refrence material issued from "nepetalactol" backbone, naturally found in some plant species (usually as glycosides) and responsible for their pharmaceutical activities, such as anti-hepatotoxic, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antiviral etc.
